Hello,
I have a male cat of now approximately nine and a half months, and in a week will bring home another little gentleman of approximately 12 weeks.
What I’m wondering is if I should neuter the older cat before the kitten arrives?
Have thought about doing it anyway, but thought he might be a little softer and kinder to the newcomer if he is neutered.

Hi Helen!
You do not need to neuter your cat to bring home a kitten. Wait until you see fit.
A sexually mature male cat is not a pain towards a kitty because its is no competitor to him.
On the other hand, he can, like any cat, become jealous and generally stupid, but that has nothing to do with neutering.
The best thing when bringing home a new cat is to make sure that it gets “your” smell as soon as possible.
Then the handover goes best.
It can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, the more you do with the kid the faster it goes.
But it’s a problem you have to try to sneak as much as possible so as not to make the old cat jealous, try this if you use perfume or something.
Take a little on your hands or wash your hands with your soap and do not dry yourself so thoroughly and stroke the kitten over the back also give the same food that the kid should have to the old cat so the stool smells as similar as possible.
You can start this a few days before the baby arrives.
Good luck!
