I have a kitten that has not opened its eyes yet, it is 6 days old.

I discovered yesterday that the eyes are swollen, and today one eye is extremely swollen. It is obvious that it is located behind the eyelid.

What can it be due to and what can I do about it?

I would like to add that the female had a very difficult birth and four of a total of six cubs have died.

The female has a congenital heart defect due to inbreeding and probably this litter has also suffered from inbreeding as many cats in our area are unfortunately related.

In addition, we have four children who have been near the kittens but we have been careful with hand washing and minimal handling. Grateful for any answers soon!
