How can it be that my farm cat has become completely black and long-haired (5cm), when both his parents are short-haired?
The other six kittens in the litter became short-haired.

Hi.
The predisposition for long fur is recessive, ie. it is required that both the mother and the father “carry” this predisposition in order for the pups to have long hair.
Because they can carry the plant without showing it themselves, sometimes long-haired cubs come in litters after two short-haired parents.
Two long-haired cats, on the other hand, cannot have short-haired pups.
