Is catnip candy toxic to cats?

Hi.

I was at the pet store yesterday and saw that they have cat candy made from catnip.

I have never seen it before and wonder if cats should eat catnip? Or is it toxic for cats to actually eat catnip?

Please let me know.

Then I wonder if it can in any way be harmful for a kitten to smell / play with toys with catnip in them?

Or should one wait until they are adults?
