Hi!
I have hepatitis C and our kitten uses its claws a lot and I wonder if I can infect my son with hepatitis if the cat scratches me and then later him?
I am worried and have not thought about it much until now.
Hello, Deb!
Yes, if a cat contracts Hepatitis C it is contagious for humans.
Hepatitis C is a virus that is found in the blood of infected people and is transmitted only through blood contact.
It is therefore required that blood from you who are infected come into contact with your son’s blood.
This could happen if your cat scratches you both and there are holes in the skin as a result of it.
I would recommend that you ask the healthcare information service for more information about the risk of infection as Hepatitis C is a disease specific to humans and they can probably give you a better answer.
