Hey!
A few years ago I had a little problem with my domestic cat Betty (now sterilized).
She was then involved in a traumatic experience at the vet, when they had to have a caesarean section to save her & the kittens. She (& the kids) did well and is now feeling very well.
The problem is, however, that after that she becomes scared and very stressed as soon as she sees a transport cage and going to the vet for a check-up & vaccination is absolutely no longer possible, as she panics of the worst kind.
What should I do to get her examined, or at least vaccinated?
Can you vaccinate the cat yourself at home?
Hey!
Yes you can do a lot to get rid of that phobia. Start by presenting the transport cage and place a soft blanket in the cage that Trulsan recognizes the smell of. Keep the cage door open and let the cage stand.
After a while, a few days or so, the cat will surely become curious and go inside.
Do not do anything then, but let her get used to the fact that the cage is not dangerous at all. This can take about three weeks if it feels bad, but be persistent.
Sometimes when you see her go in there, you close the door for a moment.
In the beginning just by lowering it so she can go out herself and eventually you close completely and leave the cage closed for a little while at a time and she will discover that the cage is not dangerous at all.
Once she gets used to the cage being there, remove it for a day or so and see that it still works.
When it has gone well and you have been to the vet, let the cage still stand in front so that she can come and go as she pleases for another time.
Your second question about veterinarians coming home and vaccinating? Yes, there are those who do it, but I think you do not need it with this training.
