I have noted this and it has gotten me wondering.
Why do all cats go crazy about catnip?
What’s the thing?
Catnip is a plant that belongs to the genus Nepta.
If you see your cat rolling around, drooling profusely and acting as if he were hypnotized, it is likely that he has found catnip.
No one fully understands why cats love catnip so much, but the main theory is that the active chemical compound (nepetaloctone) mimics the pheromones for pleasure and possibly sex.
Whether this is true or not, we can not be sure, but it is clear that the substance produces strange behaviors in cats.
When cats smell the catnip, the nepetalactone enters the nose and causes a reaction that can change the cat’s behavior.
Some cats will roll around in the coin, others will eat it, some will continue to smell it, and others will not be affected at all.
Why is my cat not interested in catnip?
The love for catnip is inherited. 70% of all cats react to catnip, but if your cat does not, there is nothing to worry about.
Cats love other things, so it might work better to play with a toy with feathers or a claw piece of furniture.
