Hello!
I wonder…
Our cat has got kittens that are now two weeks old.
The mother cat carries these cats to our bed all the time?
Could it be that she is dissatisfied with something?
Then I wonder when you can start giving cats birth control pills again after she has had kittens?
So this with training them to go on the box when to do it and what is the most appropriate way?
As you can see I have many questions hope you can help us!
Hello Lynda!
It is normal for the mother to move the kittens at this age.
In nature, this happens because the nest would now have started to smell too much to be safe for predators.
So it’s a very primal instinct.
If I were you, I would quite easily move the box, she lives in with the kids, up in bed, if that’s where she wants to be with them.
You can start giving her birth control pills right now, and that’s the best. Even when the kids are young (three weeks), some females begin to run, and then they may have difficulty concentrating on the care of the young.
It does not hurt the kids that the mother gets birth control pills.
The box training goes by itself, if you already find a small box with not too high edges and place it next to the nest.
The mother probably wants to start using it, and thus the kids learn what it is for. However, be aware that kittens (much like human babies) explore the world by tasting it.
In the beginning, they therefore probably want to eat some of the sand. Therefore, you should not use the so-called compacted sand to this box, because it can be dangerous for kitten stomachs.
With more common sand, it is not dangerous for them to eat it. In this way, I think you want to see, that box training goes pretty by itself.
